Sun of Sound

Sun of Sound is a solo exhibition by Hedi Slimane—French multi-disciplinary artist, photographer and fashion designer—featuring black and white still-life photography. I designed a new identity for the exhibition, including a typographic treatment and abstract symbol. From the raw photos, viewers are meant to experience a reduced, minimal lexicon of signs, almost liturgical in feeling. My intention was to channel Slimane’s oblique visual language into layout and type.
Learning Outcomes:
I came into this project with a lot of ideas, but I needed to unify all of these visuals into a system, which was the biggest lesson. Also, since Hedi Slimane is such a mysterious and private figure, I needed to learn how to show the viewer who he is though the presentation of his work and work history.
