Night Bus

This project was collaboratively completed with four teammates in 7 days during the GBJAM 12 (Submissions to GBJAM 12 - itch.io). My role in this project is game flow planning, level design, sound editing, and coding for special passengers in the game. The theme of this GameJam is SPOOKY, and the concept we proposed is: "SPOOKY is the intrusion of the unusual into the ordinary." Hence, we set the theme as an ordinary night shift bus driver, doing his routine job, but some unusual things will happen during his route. He will need to avoid these risks, protect his life and job, and complete his route for the night.

To reduce unnecessary guidance and improve player experience, I designed the game flow to use non-text-based guidance for teaching the player. During the game, the player will experience a series of normal stops (with normal passengers boarding). During this period, if the player kicks a passenger off the bus while trying out the game's functions, they will unlock a "fired" ending, teaching them that normal passengers should not be interacted with. Similarly, after the normal stops, a stop will suddenly appear with a non- human creature boarding. Based on the skills learned from kicking passengers earlier, the player should recognize that this creature needs to be kicked out. If they fail to react, they will trigger the death ending, learning from another perspective. In this process, the interaction between the ordinary and the unusual is highlighted, and the SPOOKY effect becomes immediately apparent.
