Briar
For this assignment, the goal was to create a modular typeface. I created 3 different modules that I then combined to create the upper and lower case alphabet glyphs. My typeface, Briar, uses high contrast within its line weights to create an ornamental blackletter feel. Because of this, I wanted to display the typeface in a context of a fairy tale story. Named after the prickly thorns found within a briar patch, the typeface contains sharp points and more organic elements.
Learning Outcomes:
This project taught me how to create modules that were flexible enough to fit to each letter but also consistent across the entire alphabet. I am also curious to see how I can expand on the illustrative elements I created with the same modules.
