Pocket Casts

Pocket Casts is a well-regarded podcast player known for its intuitive design, powerful features, and cross-platform accessibility. Originally launched in 2010 by Australian developers Russell Ivanovic and Philip Simpson under Shifty Jelly, Pocket Casts quickly gained popularity due to its superior playback controls, cloud sync capabilities, and well-curated podcast discovery tools. Over the years, it has evolved into one of t he most comprehensive podcast apps available, catering to both casual listeners and podcast enthusiasts.

Process:

I worked on Pocket Casts, contributing to a podcast player that had already built a strong reputation since 2010. When I joined the project, I was tasked with refining an app that users loved for its intuitive interface and powerful features. My design work focused on maintaining the seamless experience across platforms while enhancing the playback controls and discovery tools that had made the app popular. I designed for a challenging range of users—from casual listeners who wanted simplicity to podcast enthusiasts who demanded advanced features.

Learning Outcomes:

Throughout the project, I balanced preserving what made Pocket Casts successful with pushing the design forward to meet evolving user needs.
