Latent Datacapes [Data to Discovery]
The 10-week Data to Discovery (D2D) program brings together Caltech, JPL, and ArtCenter to explore new ways of visualizing complex scientific data. In 2024, the team created two tools—CliMAScope and CLOVE—to help researchers study Earth’s climate systems. Using interactive, intuitive visuals, the project shows how combining science, design, and art can reveal new insights and expand how we interpret data.
Learning Outcomes:
As an external collaborator, I participated in interviews and critiques with mentors and scientists. I learned that visualization not only presents data but shapes insights through its framing. Using TouchDesigner and Figma, I worked with developers and interviewed JPL and Caltech scientists to identify pain points and generate ideas. Through user workshops, we turned insights into design concepts, deepening my understanding of interdisciplinary collaboration in data visualization.
