Regalium: Lost Tides

After the untimely death of his father, a young swashbuckler must embark on a quest to confront his hellbent murderer and restore order to the seven seas.

Process:

With a rough concept in mind, I began to flesh out the story outline by conducting in depth research of 16th century Spain and Scotland's Outer Hebrides. Through research, I was able to create my own designs from imagination whilst also basing them on authenticity. In order to keep the work cohesive I always referred to the story structure to educate my choices with backstory and purpose.

Learning Outcomes:

Storytelling was at the core of my thought process and through that practice I learned how to pick and convey the crucial parts of the story in a sequential manner.

“The Quest” sets the beginning of Rodrigo Costa's journey alongside the mentorship of former naval officer, Tomak Turner.
“Insurmountable Obstacles” depicts the hazardous journey through The Barren, a graveyard of past shipwrecks in the North Atlantic surrounding Deadwood Tower.
“Deadwood Tower" is the entrance to the lair of The UnderDweller King, a shadowy figure responsible for the death of Rodrigo's father and ensuing havoc upon the seas.
“Confronting The UnderDweller” marks the pinnacle of the story where good and evil clash in a battle surrounded by crumbling columns and partially submerged areas of an abandoned Scottish royal tower.
“New Horizons” concludes the events with a hopeful outlook for the future where Rodrigo lays his father’s remains to rest and takes over as captain of the Highmann's Guild.
"Rodrigo Costa" is a preliminary sketch of the hero.
"Santos Costa" is a preliminary sketch of Rodrigo's father before his death.
"Tomak Turner" is a preliminary sketch of the former naval officer and Rodrigo's mentor.
"The UnderDweller King" is a preliminary sketch of the undead villain, formerly Admiral Edward Moorland.
