Flower Market

This project begins with a visit to the Downtown Los Angeles Flower Market. While buying flowers, the vendor added a few extra stems to my purchase without charging for them. The gesture was small, but it revealed something interesting about the market: alongside the strict logic of transactions, there are also quiet acts of generosity.

The installation translates this moment into a visual archive composed of oversized paper flowers, suspended receipts, and cyanotype prints. The paper flowers recreate the varieties from that day, enlarging a temporary bouquet into something almost monumental. A giant receipt documents fragments of the purchase, emphasizing how systems of accounting record prices and quantities but fail to capture informal exchanges.

The project reflects on the gap between what markets measure and what actually happens between people.
