Center Theatre Group

Center Theatre Group is a nonprofit theatre company serving Los Angeles for nearly 60 years across three venues. This rebrand establishes a unified identity system and stronger digital presence to better reflect its mission of supporting diverse communities, new artists, and broader audiences.

The identity draws from stage blocking—tape markings used to guide movement on stage. These forms construct the CTG logomark, translating theatrical motion into a graphic system governed by consistent stroke, framing, and spacing rules.

The system separates institutional and promotional materials through color and layout. Institutional applications remain black and white, positioning CTG as the foundation, while promotional pieces adopt each production’s color palette to foreground the work. Layouts reinforce this structure: split or full-page for promotional, and full-page or thirds-based compositions referencing the three venues for institutional.

A generative p5.js tool extends the system by producing randomized blocking notes, creating scalable, adaptable posters as an evergreen asset for future productions.
