Subtext - (CTG)

Subtext is Center Theatre Group’s year-long residency for playwrights across Los Angeles, culminating in a three-day festival of staged readings where audiences engage with works in progress and share feedback. Designed to support new voices, the program creates space for experimentation and development.

Its identity centers on writing and process rather than traditional theatrical imagery. A generative typographic tool defines the visual language, creating an intentionally text-heavy system that embodies the idea of “reading between the lines.” Layouts reference script formatting through centered titles and subtitles with left-aligned body copy, while a Post-it–inspired palette nods to brainstorming and iteration.

The tool enables customizable typography—scale, alignment, spacing, tracking, magnification, and bold offset—and supports high-quality outputs across print and digital applications.
