Futility Closet Podcast

Futility Closet (FC) is a blog, podcast, and informational database. This app was created so that users can access all of FC's murder/crime podcasts and content in one place. The design was heavily inspired by pulp magazines, which often featured scary stories that were even exploitative in nature, much like true crime content is today. The app home screen and secondary podcast pages feature custom illustrations, done in Procreate.
Learning Outcomes:
Before completing this project, I struggled with utilizing both illustration and typography in materials. The development of this tablet app helped me to see how type and imagery, specifically illustration, can support each other in a group of visuals. Type and illustration do not compete for the viewer's attention when done correctly, and I found a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing solution to my problem. Furthermore, this project helped me to develop my digital drawing skills more generally.
