To Question Art

The goal of this project was to create a mural for the Raymond Ave. construction wall that related to an art movement/manifesto. My project was built upon the work of Claes Oldenburg, and his manifesto “I Am For An Art.” The mural asks the age old question “what is art” and pokes fun at both those who take art too seriously, and those who do not take art seriously at all. The mural parallels Oldenburg’s sentiment that everything is art - and perhaps that, at the same time, nothing is art.
Learning Outcomes:
I have never worked at this scale, and this was my first venture into large scale environmental graphics. Modifying my design, and what I know about design, so that I could create a successful large piece was a challenge. Rendering the Napoleon figure/horse and David was also a learning opportunity - I was challenged to experiment with photorealism in digital painting.
