VAN:GUARD

The rebrand of Vanguard Magazine unifies fashion, film, and culture within an evolving, digital-first platform.
Rooted in its name, Vanguard reflects both van—the experimental front that pushes boundaries and guard
—the clarity and discipline that grounds the work.

Designed for screen-based experiences, the identity emphasizes motion, modular layouts, and editorial pacing. The result is a contemporary digital environment where ideas move, shift, and continually take
new shape.

Process:

For Vanguard, I began by analyzing the magazine’s original mission and visual inconsistencies. I explored two typographic directions—VAN:GUARD and VM—testing how each could communicate innovation and cultural storytelling. Through iterative sketching, visual research, and layout prototypes, I refined a system that balances clarity, experimentation, and a forward looking editorial tone.

Learning Outcomes:

I learned how to create a cohesive identity system, refine typographic choices, and translate a concept across print, digital, and motion. The project helped me strengthen my process, improve my visual
decision-making, and better understand how to express a brand’s tone through design.
