Ancient Chinese Weapons

With Chinese ancient weapons as the topic, in my project, typefaces are made according to the posture of people’s using ancient weapons. This can help people better understand what the practical tools are and how to use them for people in the ancient times. More importantly, it can help turn boring history into interesting activision, which helps arouse people’s interest in history.

From this project, I feel deeply that both history and wisdom of the ancients can bring joy to us. I found that the tools of the ancients are closely related to us, as many things that we use nowadays evolve from the ancient times, from which I deeply realize the super wisdom of the ancients. The last but not least, I suppose that learning is not necessarily boring. As long as we use the right ways of learning and choose one that is suitable for us, we can gain joy from learning.

In China, there were hundreds different types of weapon, and there are four can represent them which are Sword, Knife, Halberd and Lance. Swords appeared during the mid-third century BC. In the late Warring States period, it switched to wrought iron and steel. Swords are usually 70–110 cm in length. Knife in ancient Chinese is called ‘Dao’, and it is a single-point weapon. The shape of Dao has changed a lot during the Spring and Autumn Period. The halberd is a combination of the lance and the dagger-axe, and its case striking function is also a combination of them. The use of lance as a military weapon can be traced back to the Shang Dynasty. The height of lance is about an upright human body with arms straight up.
