The Forgotten Sentinel
After the fall of The Ruined King, Yorick continues his journey in helping the dead pass on. However, The Ruined King’s mist lingers on, and he must stop a cult that is forming, in the hopes of reviving him. He finds a timid Yordle named Agi and team up against the cult leader Apati, who is also gathering souls, but with intentions to enslave the souls to serve the Ruined King.
Further background:
Yorick is able to communicate with the dead, only digging up those who wish to be unearthed in order further their cause. These undead are called “The Hallowed”. The cultists on the other hand dig up every single grave, enslaving them to do her bidding. These undead are called “The Damned”.
Process:
The most difficult parts of this project is definitely the thumb nailing process and coming up with ideas that work, and pairing that with subtle color changes. How can I best sell this character's power fantasy? How does it make me feel upon seeing this painting?
I had my sister look at these painting in the early stages without any context, and I would incorporate that feedback. I would ask questions like "why doesn't it feel scary?" "why doesn't it feel happy enough?"
Learning Outcomes:
I want to create showstopping paintings that is able to capture your attention, not only with smart usage of atmosphere, but great rendering that shows the material and effective lighting scenarios to portray the vibe I want the audience to feel.
