Project Iuvo

Project Iuvo is a humanoid robot designed to support nurses and hospital staff by taking on smaller, non-clinical tasks such as patient requests, deliveries, basic check-ins, and routine assistance. By reducing the time caregivers spend on manual and administrative work, Iuvo helps shorten wait times and allows trained professionals to focus on delivering higher-quality, human-centered care where it matters most. Designed with soft, approachable forms and a non-intimidating scale, Iuvo brings a compassionate, consumer-friendly approach to robotics in healthcare environments.

Process:

My design process began with the goal of bringing robotics closer to the consumer electronics world, prioritizing approachable, non-intimidating forms rather than traditional medical or humanoid robots. Research across hospitals, nursing homes, and adjacent service environments revealed that nurses and support staff spend a significant portion of their time on non-clinical tasks outside their specialized training. Guided by these insights, the initial design approach focused on a broad exploration of form factors and functions targeting these tasks before refining proportions, aesthetics, and mechanical simplicity through soft shapes, minimal components, and human-centered interaction.
