Salmon's Restaurant-Noon and Sunset

These digital exterior paintings are inspired by my dreams.

In the dream, my whole family and I went to a small country abroad and had a joyful time. While there, my cousins went hiking before having lunch, and my grandmother and the other relatives went to brunch at a salmon restaurant. Before joining the others, my parents and I went deep sea diving in a submarine and walked on the ocean floor.

My grandmother passed away last summer. She and my family really wanted to take a trip together, but it was never realized. That is why I dreamed that my whole family took a wonderful trip. These paintings represent the dreams that my family and I finally realized.

Process:

First, I chose an exterior scene from my dream diary. Then, I made thumbnail sketches, chose a composition, and started drawing lines and applying black and white values. After revising the colors and lighting with my professor, I finished the paintings of the scenery at noon and at sunset.

Learning Outcomes:

The lighting at noon and at sunset is very similar, yet different. At sunset, all objects and nature take on the colors of the sky, whereas at noon, the sky colors are not as apparent.

It was pretty difficult for me to paint nature elements such as the ocean and clouds, but my professor taught me how to paint them more naturally and realistically. I finally learned how to paint nature.
