BFA in Graphic Design — Graphic DesignMusic Poster
This music poster was created as the final project for the Narrative Image class. Each student was assigned an artist, and the project required in-depth research and close listening to the artist’s music. I was assigned Sigur Rós, an Icelandic post-rock band from Reykjavík, and focused my research on their album INNI. Since this was an unfamiliar band to me, I spent significant time studying their sound and visual identity. I found the album to be calm, atmospheric, and unexpectedly subtle rather than loud or aggressive. Based on these qualities, I developed a series of posters by experimenting with zoomed-in imagery and expressive visual treatments to reflect the mood of the music.
Through this project, I strengthened my research skills by analyzing the band’s visual style, musical atmosphere, and artistic message. I also practiced translating sound into visual form by summarizing the emotional tone of each track and presenting my interpretations during critique. Feedback from the teaching assistant guided me in transforming imagery into more dynamic and engaging poster compositions. This project helped me develop stronger skills in poster layout, typographic hierarchy, and the placement of the band title and logo within a cohesive visual system.
