BFA in Graphic Design — Graphic DesignType 3 Posters
This project involved designing a series of movie posters and brochures inspired by the visual language of film noir. Film noir is characterized by high-contrast black-and-white imagery, dramatic lighting, and themes of tension and mystery, often accented with selective color such as red for visual emphasis. For my concept, I reinterpreted noir aesthetics using layers of smoke combined with bold color experimentation. While maintaining a black background, I introduced a yellow smoke element to create a modern and unexpected variation on the classic noir atmosphere.
This project challenged me to work with complex layouts and design multi-page brochures for the first time. Through this process, I learned essential skills in brochure structure, typographic hierarchy, kerning, and leading. The iterative critique process helped refine both the color relationships and the integration of typography with imagery. Continuous revisions guided by feedback from the instructor allowed me to develop a stronger sense of concept-driven design and visual cohesion.
