Temporal Identity in placemaking

Old school, Temporal identity in place making - A mixed use public space located in the heart of south pasadena - explores how architecture can shape identity by holding memory, change, and contemporary life in the same space.

Through the adaptive reuse of an abandoned school building in South Pasadena, Old School: Temporal Identity in Placemaking argues against sterile urban environments and proposes a mixed use public space that bridges old and new, not through imitation, but through reflective nostalgia, contextual materiality, and lived social interaction. The project seeks to preserve the small town character of South Pasadena while creating new conditions for gathering, local business, and informal community life, showing that meaningful places are not static objects, but environments that deepen over time through use, traces, and collective memory.
