The Unnamed World

Based on native species of Mt. Wilson, the project deconstructs and assigns unusual textures on them. Placing virtual species in a realistic setting challenges people's recognition of everyday encounters. Once we stop retrieving inherent names, concepts, and categories from memory, we may perceive nature in a wider sensory context, fostering a more intimate relationship with it. Those recognition reversals caused by an unexpected outcome also stimulate our perceptions, making them more plastic.
