Background & Props

This project is a collection of background paintings and prop designs created for a fantasy world inspired by Chinese landscapes, mythology, and historical craftsmanship. Each piece focuses on building a sense of place through atmosphere, architecture, and cultural detail.

The backgrounds explore a range of environments from open, windswept valleys and floating cliffside temples to quiet interior spaces lit by candles and dusted with particles. I worked with dramatic lighting changes, color scripts, and large-scale compositions to give each location a strong mood and narrative presence.

For the props, I designed objects that feel rooted in traditional materials while still belonging to a fantasy setting. This includes an ornate bronze sword with Shang- and Zhou-dynasty influences and a magical harp decorated with animal motifs and lacquer-like patterns. These designs emphasize craftsmanship, symbolism, and storytelling through form and surface detail.

These works represent my approach to visual world-building: creating environments and objects that feel alive, culturally grounded, and full of stories waiting to unfold.
