Assigned with crafting a 6-word narrative for Mammut, the renowned outdoor sports brand, I work on designing a product aimed at empowering mountaineers to ascend to their peak potential.
In low-temperature environments, mountaineers often experience rapid heat loss in the legs during short breaks. This sudden drop forces the body to expend extra energy when movement resumes, increasing fatigue and reducing overall efficiency.
This project proposes a next-generation knee-brace system powered by piezoelectric energy harvesting. The device captures energy from natural walking motion and converts it into electricity to drive EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation). The EMS pulses help maintain muscle activation, reduce fatigue, improve circulation, and stabilize the knee throughout long ascents.
The goal is to develop a lightweight, self-powered, and performance-driven wearable that integrates biomechanics, sustainable power generation, and the demands of alpine environments. By merging wearable technology, piezoelectric materials, and mountain-sport physiology, this concept envisions gear that actively assists the human body—keeping climbers warmer, stronger, and more confident on steep, cold, and constantly changing terrain.
