House of Queens

House of Queens is a book that celebrates the art of drag. It spotlights its history and development and shines light on the queer people of color who paved the way for modern day drag in the New York Ballroom scene. While modern day drag faces criticism and has become a political controversy, it is important to learn how drag queens have created safe spaces for queer communities for many decades.
Learning Outcomes:
This project pushed me out of my comfort zone in both of design and content. This was my first time doing any sort of book design and I had to learn a lot about sequencing and managing the flow of content across many pages. Working with a real printer also helped me learn better production and communication practices. In terms of content, I learned how rewarding and fulling it can be to pursue social topics that are important to me, despite what other people may think.
